In 1955, we headed the Appalachian Trail (approximately 3,500km), one of America’s three major long trails.
The first woman to thrust over was her 67-year-old grandma.
Emma Gatewood, 67, no hiking experience.
She has domestic violence husband, 11 children and 23 grandchildren, and has no tent or sleeping bag.
I continued walking 20km a day along the trail, wrapped in a blanket.
Their appearance soon turned to news, and reporters began to wait for each destination.
She was ignoring their question, “Why do you walk?” and soon began to speak to her heart.
Met on the trail and parting. She endured her husband’s domestic violence for 34 years and ended her marriage.
As motorization progresses, environmental protection is a trend in the era of calls for the protection of the environment.
A revisiting trails by an author living in modern times…
A story from Emma Gatewood, which is told between places and times.
The truth about Grandma Emma, the aspiration and goal of all hikers aiming for the long trail, is now being told.
